SO SOU SOUFUL SUNDAY!

Kennst du dieses Gefühl, in einem Café oder draussen von Menschen umgeben zu sein, und dich trotzdem isoliert zu fühlen?

Als ich in Togo aufwuchs, war Gemeinschaft etwas, das einfach geschah: im Sammeltaxi, auf der Strasse, im Imbiss oder auf offenen Plätzen. Nicht der Konsum stand im Mittelpunkt, sondern das Zusammensein. Man sah sich, kam ins Gespräch, lachte, hörte zu; und versüsste einander so den Tag.

Daraus entstand mein interaktiver Brunch “So, Sou, Soulful Sunday!”, ein „dritter Ort“ für Menschen, die sich nach echter Verbundenheit sehnen. Man kommt ohne etwas leisten zu müssen, einfach um aufzutanken und es ist sehr willkommen mit anderen dort ins Gespräch zu kommen.

Mai 2025 war ein erster Test im Foyer Public des Theaters Basel, die Resonanz war gross. Dieses Jahr geht’s weiter, im Vorstadttheater :)

Do you know that feeling of sitting in a café or in a public place, surrounded by people, and still feeling oddly isolated?

When I grew up in Togo, community was something that simply happened: in shared taxis, on the streets, at food stalls or on open squares. Not consumption, but togetherness was at the centre. People saw each other, started talking, laughed, listened – and brightened each other’s day a little.

From this, my interactive brunch “So, Sou, Soulful Sunday!” was born – a “third place” for people who long for real connection. You come without having to perform or achieve anything, simply to recharge, and it’s very welcome (though not obligatory) to get into conversation with others there.

In May 2025, I tested the format for the first time at Foyer Public of Theater Basel, and the response was wonderful. This year, it continues at Vorstadttheater Basel as a playful, gentle space with brunch, digital detox, creative activities and room to just be.
